YouTubers Reject #ProudToBe Video
On June 21, 2016 YouTube's Official page put out a video celebrating homosexuality, transsexualism and the concept of "non-binary genders" to its users. It wasn't well received. YouTube promoted its own video by adding a rainbow heart between the search bar and the YouTube logo; if you clicked on the logo you would be immediately taken to this video.
The video was apparently well received until more and more people began to watch it. However within a few hours it became clear that the dislikes had surpassed the likes; the gap only grew as more and more people viewed the video.
In the comment section it became a mix of Nazi support (whether fake or real), jokes, honest disagreements and support for the video. Comments mentioning that there are only two genders or that there was a third--mental illness were not uncommon.
About 24-hours after posting their video YouTube removed the promotional rainbow heart from their homepage. It was unclear if they had always planned to take it down after 24-hours or if they hoped to draw less attention to the video which was becoming infamous. On Twitter the #ProudToBe was used mainly by supporters who often promoted the video but this failed to win them the majority.
YouTube was often criticized in the comments for having repeatedly deleting anti-homosexual, transsexualism and multi-genderism comments along with comments making references to being proud of being Christian, heterosexual or white. By 9:00 AM (EST) the day after the video's release YouTube disabled the comment section altogether.
A considerable number of those protesting the video gave their support for homosexuality and bi-sexuality as socially valid sexual orientations while at the same time expressing a view that only two genders exist. There were also complaints about YouTube promoting their video above everyone else's.
Two days after posting the video YouTube Spotlight changed its profile picture from a rainbow to its usual photo.
Those against the idea of Transsexualism include: Steven Crowder and Milo Yiannopoulos,
Those for the idea of Transexualism include: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
