Canadian Parliament Denies Iraq Genocide

On Tuesday June 11, 2016 the Canadian Parliament voted on a bill that would recognize the atrocities committed by ISIS as a genocide. Thus Canada became the first western country to deny the genocide. America's Congress agreed unilaterally that the atrocities constitutes a genocide in April. The British Parliament also unilaterally declared it a genocide.

The motion was brought by the Conservative Party (which now constitutes a minority in Parliament). Former Prime Minister Steven Harper, Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose and New Democratic Leader Thomas Mulcair voted to declare the massacres a Genocide.

Prime Minister and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Green Leader Elizabeth May voted against the motion.

139 voted for recognizing the mass killings as a Genocide. (Most of whom were Conservative or of the NDP.)
166 voted against the motion. (Most of whom were Liberals.)
